RI state law and minimum housing code requires landlords of most pre-1978 rental properties to take certain steps to ensure their rental units are safe, and there are serious consequences for not complying with these laws. Rhode Island Residential Lead Abatement Income Tax Credit
Tax credit up to $1,500 per unit for lead mitigation work and up to $5,000 per unit for lead abatement work, up to 3 units per year.

RI State Rental Registry - All landlords must register by October 1st, 2024. Owners of pre-1978 rental units must show proof of lead certificate as well.
